Our Story
Yajayo was born out of a practical need and a passion for sustainability. Moses Baraza, our founder, after years of working in the events industry, frequently witnessed the overwhelming aftermath of large gatherings—grounds littered with countless spirit bottles. This experience highlighted a significant waste management challenge and sparked a vision: to revolutionize how post-consumption waste is handled, with a specific focus on the beverage industry.
Founded in Nairobi, Kenya, Yajayo’s name, derived from Swahili, means “future,” symbolizing our commitment to creating a cleaner, greener world for generations to come. Since our inception, we have grown from tackling event waste into a pioneering company, leading the transformation of waste management practices in partnership with industry leaders like Diageo.
Our journey is not just one of an individual vision but a collective effort. With a dedicated team behind the scenes, Yajayo has returned over 7 million bottles to Diageo since 2022 and continues to engage in local clean-up initiatives in the communities where we operate. From Nairobi to Machakos, Meru, Athi River, Bomet, and Eldoret, Yajayo’s mission is sustained through collaboration and the drive to create real environmental and social impact.
As we look ahead, Yajayo is committed to expanding its reach, both by partnering with more clients and by broadening our focus to include other recyclable resources, such as plastic. Our vision for the future also includes expanding into other locations across East Africa, as we continue to lead the way in sustainable waste management.
